What would help my chances of getting into College the most? General guidance needed 4 CompSci/Football Guy.?
Posted by: admin / Category: Local Google MarketingFirst off, a little back story so that you’ll understand everything. Basically, didn’t do that well in High School just getting low B’s and High C’s despite the simplicity of those courses. I just didn’t think any of it would be that important at the moment, and now its coming back to bite me in the a$$.
Well sort of anyway, I spent the time I was supposed to be doing homework learning computer programming and other divisions of computer science. I graduated high school May 2009, and wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college yet so I gave myself a year off.
Now it’s January, and I’m wanting to go to college. I just took my SAT’s and will be getting my scores back on February 19th. I’ve been looking at Colleges such as:
Rice University (First Choice)
Harvey Mudd (heard this school was tough, but i’ve always liked a challenge)
University Of Texas at Austin (School i’ve always dreamt of going to)
Texas A&M
Ohio State
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
CalTech
I am VERY interested in genetic programming, and have been toying around with it lately. I am also well versed in OOP principles, and making flexible, reusable, and extensible programs. I have experience developing software for clients via freelancing websites such as rentacoder.com and scriptlance.com.
As you might be able to tell, I am very confused as to what I need to do now. I was wondering if applying genetic programming to solve some sort of problem would increase my chances of getting into these schools. Would any other type of computer programming projects help my chances of getting in? Is my real world software development experience helpful in getting me into college?
Also, my family is making little to no income right now so I should be eligible for financial aid. I have found a ton of resources online, but I’m not sure what to do with all of them. I’m basically lost right now, and asking for some guidance for anyone that has been in a similar situation. Also, here is a list of skills that I have:
HTML
CSS
Graphic Design (beginner to intermediate)
PHP (5 years experience)
MySQL
Perl
Python
C# (3 years experience)
*nix administration
I’m great with Regex
Security vulnerabilities (hackthissite.com hellboundhackers.org and finding vulner. on local machine)
C++ (beginnner)
Java (beginner to intermediate, very similar to C#)
Search Engine Optimization
Internet Marketing
Affiliate Marketing
E-commerce
Ad copy testing/tracking conversions
Google Adwords Specialist
I also might consider playing football in college, here are my relevant attributes:
6′4 198 lbs
4.6 40 yard dash
225 lbs X 1 (weak I know)
32" vertical
4.43 20 yard shuttle
Another thing of note is I have impeccable balance and control of my body due to training parkour for 2 years. Here is parkour:

How to Make Money Selling Business Cards
Posted by: admin / Category: Small Business Advertising
Creating business cards is a great way to make money. If you’re creative, good on a computer, and can meet deadlines, you can do this. It is a fast and easy way to make extra money. It can be your side hobby and, if it picks up, consider making it into a small business.
Things You’ll Need:
- Printer
- Ink
- Business Card Paper
- Business Card Software
- Step 1
Get a high quality printer. This is necessary for printing the business cards. If you can afford it, purchase a color laser printer. This will be the best value for your money. Don’t forget to buy the proper inks and toners.
- Step 2
Get the necessary paper. There are different textures and weights that can be used for business cards. There are two design options to choose from, the first one is the pre-cut paper that already has the business card shapes. If you would like, you can purchase a good card stock. This will make it easier to print as you will not have certain template restrictions. The down side is that you will have to cut the cards after you print them.
- Step 3
Set up the business card software and get used to it. The better you know the software, the nicer the cards will look.
- Step 4
Create a few sample designs. In the samples, use your personal business information. This is a good source of advertising.
- Step 5
Begin advertising. The only way you can make money is if people know about it. Consider posting your services on websites like Craigslist. You can also place an ad in the newspaper or put business cards in local restaurants.
- Step 6
Get started. Create a mock-up with your client’s information. Keep the business type in mind when creating the mock-ups. Be creative and have a few different options for the client to choose from. Let the client proofread the card.
- Step 7
Print the cards once they’ve been approved. Be sure to have the right amount of cards on the correct type of business card paper. It is important to inspect the business cards so that they are all aligned properly and include the correct information.
- Step 8
Package and deliver the business cards. If you are only doing this for local businesses, you can hand-deliver them. If not, you’ll have to properly ship them to your client.
- Step 9
Make sure you send the bill and collect the payment. This is your money-making strategy, so you must follow through. Don’t feel badly if you are forceful in the event of nonpayment.
- Step 10
Keep records of each transaction. Include the business name, location, business card design, amount of cards ordered, and anything else that you think you need to remember. With the different database software, you can easily put this information together in no time.

Common Mistakes Made In Home Business
Posted by: admin / Category: Small Business Advertising
Anyone who is trying to start a home business has probably seen the failure statistics for new home businesses, and avoiding some common mistakes made by new business operators will help make your home business more successful.
A lack of self discipline is one of the most common mistakes made by people who start a home business. Being your own boss is great if you have the discipline to work when you should, instead of running off to play. People who procrastinate or do not do well working with no supervision usually do not operate successful home businesses. If you plan to start your own home business, you have to be prepared to work even if you don’t feel like it to meet your deadlines.
Not marketing their home business is another huge mistake that new home business owners make. Marketing is needed to bring in customers, and without it a home business may very well shrivel and dry up. Marketing can be done in numerous ways, and the cost varies from very cheap to very expensive, depending on the specific marketing campaign. Marketing will help you reach people and tell them about your home business. Not aggressively marketing their home business may cause many owners to watch their business fail.
A big mistake that is made by home business owners is to take customer service and concerns lightly. Customers are your profit maker and a sign of the success of your home business. By ignoring concerns or not correcting problems, your home business could lose customers. Word of mouth is the best advertising you can get, and it can not be bought. A satisfied customer will tell friends and family members about your home business, and this could lead to several more customers. If a customer is unhappy and you do not fix it, you can bet that they will tell everyone they know, and this could cost your home business many potential customers. Excellent customer service is a must for any business, including home businesses.
Common mistakes in your home business could cost you customers and profits. By realizing some of the more common mistakes new home business owners make, you can avoid these mistakes and have a better chance of making your home business a success. Make sure that you have the self discipline that is required when you work for yourself. Market your home business aggressively. Marketing brings in customers and tells everyone about your home business. Make sure that you have excellent customer service. A satisfied customer is a repeat customer who will tell people they know. This leads to more customers and more success for your home business.

Ok, where to begin?
I am Running an eMachine "EL1200-07w with Vista SP2
2.00 GB of RAM
1.61 Ghz AMD Athlon Processor (2650e)
Everything is stock in the computer except the 500 GB hard drive I put in it long ago.
It has a NIC (Ethernet) and Dial Up connections
But I use a Wireless Adapter, check it out here:
http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Wardriving-Extension-Strongest-Market/dp/B000QYGNKQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
I found the proper Driver for it and it works great after I set it up with a Popcorn can that is use like a Dish, but is working better than a Dish. It can hit actual download speeds of 600 KB/s (Kilo Bytes, not bits) and an Upload Speed of 100 KB/s and has a ping of 120ms, which was working great with the PS3.
————————————————————-
A few days ago I was really racking my brain for a way to get my PS3 online, and eventually came to the idea to run Ethernet cable from the PC to PS3 and then Bridge that connection with my Wireless Internet Connection, and guess what, IT WORKED.
Problem is, is that it isn’t working anymore. It worked for 2 full days.
Last night I turned off the PS3 (After playing a few hours of UT III online) and my monitor automatically switched back over to the VGA connection for my computer. I quickly noticed that it said the internet was not connected, so I tried to connect and it said in the available networks list that I was already connected, after further investigation I found that the IPV 4 and 6 where refusing to connect, even though they where enabled in the adapter options.
So I Unbridged the connections and all was fixed for my PC, but now the PS3 is screwed.
Why did it suddenly not work anymore?
Here is a list of things I have already tried and their outcomes:
Tried Wireless connection in the beginning, but the signal isn’t strong enough and I can’t move the PS3 any closer to the Router. So I am forced to LAN. The Router is too far away to run a cable. The only reason my PC is fine is because I have a good Wireless USB Adapter that picks up great. I know I can use my PC to do this.
Tried setting my Wireless Connection on my PC to Share it’s connection, but it has a problem " An Error Occurred While Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start" (PS3 was on and has Internet Connection Enabled). I have done everything listed by an answerer in this question and it still says that:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atf7df66tG3242el9a22Sm3sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080721162912AA4SvL0
Then I wanted to try an Ad-Hoc, but you can only do Wireless Ad-Hoc and the PS3 doesn’t show up on the list even with Network Discovery On. This would be easier if there was a Wired Ad-Hoc. Plus I then realized that the Wireless Adapter can’t do anything other than share it’s connection, it can’t be focused on anything other than the connection to the Router because then I wouldn’t have an IC.
And Lastly, I decided that maybe I should put a piece of equipment between the PC and PS3 through LAN. So I went and bought a Linksys 5 port "Workgroup Switch" and another Ethernet Cable. Plugged it in and made a connection from the Computer’s NIC to the input line on the Switch and then ran the other Ethernet cable from the #1 port to the PS3 and then turned on the PS3. Then tried to see if it could do anything from that point, and NO, just a local connection to my computer.
So then I tried to set the Sharing again and it still says the same thing. SO, then I tried Bridging the connections again, still a no go, my Internet fails when I bridge them.
So, now I am stuck on what to do. I figured I would Post this while and wait on some responses while continuing my Google searches.
Thank you very much for any help, I know it’s a long winded one, but I don’t ask a question on here unless I just can’t find it anywhere else that pertains to my situation.
The Ethernet Cord I already had is a regular one that came with my old Windstream Modem that isn’t used anymore.
But the New one I just bought is a CAT5e Networking Cable, I tried it straight to the PS3 from the PC and that didn’t work.
I don’t have control of the Router, I am paying a neighbor to share, so I can’t really go over there asking to mess with the Router, I know it works just fine and is connected correctly, so That part is irrelevant.
Plus the Switch I bought auto detects the whole Cross Over business and incorporates what the cross over cord does on it’s own, so you don’t need the special cord, but I was forced to buy that wire because it was the only Ethernet wire they had at walmart ($10 !!! 7 Ft)
So the problem with the Topology is that I don’t have another Straight through cord.
And finally, The Ad-Hoc isn’t working, it does let me create it, but no matter how close I make it to my PS3, the PS3 doesn’t recognize it.
More on the Ad-hoc, It comes up in my Available networks and I can connect to it, but that technically doesn’t make sense, how can my only wireless adapter connect to itself? Even when I do connect to it it shows no bars.
Next stuff I have just tried:
I just saw on the PS3 that it will only connect to Private Networks, and the LAN connection was Public, but when I switched it it was still just a Local connection and the ICS still isn’t working.
I think my main problem to solve is why my Internet connection goes out when I bridge them, I’m going to work on that for a while.
Hate it when people don’t allow email.
In order for you to connect your PC to your PS3 you need to connect using a crossover cable. a cross over cable is a cat5 or cat5e ethernet cable that has some pins switched so you can communicate from host to host in a adhoc network. Some computers and NIC have autonegotiation of crossover and straight-through cable, meaning that the cable doesn’t matter. but I am not sure if your NIC or the PS3 support this or not. Straight-through is the normal type of cable. but to be safe use a cross over cable in these situations
Router (WAN interface not the switch interfaces) direct to PC.
Switch to Switch (trunk links)
PC to PC
Basically like devices must connect using a crossover cable.
You may want to try this network topology.
Connect the Router to a port on the switch with an straight-through ethernet cable.
Connect the PS3 to the switch with a straight-through ethernet cable.
Connect the PC to the switch with a straight-through ethernet cable.
Use your Router as a DHCP server for automatic addressing.
If this is not possible then
create an ad-hoc network with your PS3 and PC, and share the internet connection.
Also what you might wanna do is try uninstalling and reinstalling your network hardware and software. This may resolve your software/driver/hardware issues with ICS (internet connection sharing)
Hopefully this helps
Good Luck
How Do I Build an Online MLM Business?
Posted by: admin / Category: Small Business Advertising
Building an online MLM business can be a great way to make a living for yourself. Building your online MLM business takes work and patience. You cannot take shortcuts and expect to make big money with your MLM. You must be persistent and dedicated to make your MLM work. Once your MLM business is up and running, the rewards will be well worth the effort.
The first step is you must find a mentor and a team who is willing to work with you. The MLM business itself is not that important. What is important is that you receive the training and that you have the support to help you. Many MLM businesses do not offer good training. If this is your first time starting a MLM business, finding a business with great training is key. Without having the proper support for your business, it may take you a lot of trial and error before you succeed. It also helps to have the support because you may get negative feedback from many people. So the positive support will help you get through the rough times.
Next you must learn how to market online. Marketing online gives you a wider range of customers to sell to. You must decide how you are going to market your online MLM business. Will you pay for traffic or try to get free traffic? One of the most familiar ways to get paid traffic is called Pay-Per-Click Advertising. Getting this type of targeted traffic can be very effective but it can also be very expensive. Paid traffic primarily depends on how much money you have to spend. A good rule of thumb is to reinvest any money you make with your MLM business, back into advertising. Free traffic is great. The most effective way to get free traffic is from search engines. You must first have your own website and then you must optimize the website. If you have the cash you can hire a SEO company to do this for you.
Once you have your online MLM business setup the rewards will far outweigh the work you put in.

Marketing Techniques to Save your Home Business
Posted by: admin / Category: Small Business Advertising
It is easy to become overwhelmed by the prospect of failure, and during trying times resources seem scarce and the task of turning things around can appear daunting. But there are still key points and important things to keep in mind.
Knowing the customer base is essential. Customers are the life blood of any company. Often times, marketing strategies may not be the direct cause of home business failure. There is a likelihood that a home business is failing because the good or service being offered doesnt have the sufficient customer base to become successful. Those beginning a home business find it alluring to start up a venture that is based upon a hobby, but this is not always the key to marketing success. Research is needed to make sure a product, service, or idea will sell. If a business finds that it simply lacks an effective customer base for a specific product, it is necessary for the business to change its product completely. No amount of marketing strategy will allow for a product to sell or for that business to do well if there is a nonessential demand for it.
Switching an advertising approach can bring about great change in business. It is a good idea to diversify methods of advertising, and a business should never put all of its advertising eggs in one basket. Advertising is expensive, but necessary. When considering an outlet for advertising, a small business must research the newspaper, website, or circulation to understand the customer potential to be had in a particular audience. For example, a business has the potential to turn things around by switching their ad from appearing in a free weekly newspaper to a daily subscription based circulation.
Allow for customer feed back. Struggling home business owners should listen closely to all of the positive and negative things customers have to say about all aspects of their particular product or service. In doing so, the business owner should keep track of how often certain concepts, themes, or ideas are repeated, good or bad. In order to save any business, its management must focus on maintaining its strengths, repairing or eliminating problems, and breaking new ground in the road ahead.
Incentives can generate greater earnings and increase customer traffic. There are many different ways to offer incentives to new and existing customers. It is certainly difficult for any business owner to part with earning potential when things are rough. An incentive is essentially a direct investment in the customer, and is an investment that doesnt directly require the giving-up of funds or capital. But a struggling business owner shouldnt create incentives that can further damage their business and a thorough analysis of an incentives business impact should be made before hand. Some great examples of incentives include, but are not limited to, frequent purchase rewards, special offers for first time buyers, and customer referral programs.
Saving a home business is not easy. Entrepreneurs should remain positive and focused. There are may creative ways to readjust failed or failing marketing strategies with the understanding that customers are at the core of a businesses success
